Spiritual Solace: Evening Aarti at Ram Ghat
No trip to Ujjain is complete without sitting on the steps of Ram Ghat during sunset. This ancient bathing ghat on the Kshipra River is believed to be the spot where Lord Rama performed the last rites for his father. Every evening, the ghat resonates with the sound of bells, conch shells, and Sanskrit chants during the Kshipra Aarti.
Similar to the famous Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, the Kshipra Aarti is a visual treat where priests offer huge oil lamps to the river goddess. It is a peaceful way to end a day of sightseeing, watching the lamps float down the dark waters of the river that has sustained Ujjain for millennia.
