Mahakal Annakshetra: Where 50,000 Devotees Eat for Free Daily

One of the most humbling experiences in Ujjain is visiting the Mahakal Annakshetra (Food Hall). Located near the Mahakal Lok corridor, this massive kitchen feeds over 50,000 pilgrims every day completely free of cost. The facility runs 24/7 and is powered by donations from devotees.

The meal, known as Prasadam, typically consists of Dal, Rice, Roti, and a seasonal vegetable, prepared with high hygiene standards. The automated roti-making machines here are a marvel to watch. Devotees can also donate online or at the counter to sponsor a day’s meal for thousands, a popular practice for birthdays and anniversaries.
