Basant Panchami 2026: Ujjain Turns Yellow with Kites & Poha
Ujjain is gearing up for Basant Panchami on January 23, 2026. The city is expected to turn into a sea of yellow, the color of the festival. Sweet shops across Freeganj and the Old City are stocking up on Kesar Jalebi and yellow rice (Meethe Chawal).
Traditionally, locals flock to the banks of the Kshipra River for kite flying on this day. The demand for “manjha” and kites has spiked in the Patni Bazar market. Temples, including the Sandipani Ashram, will host special Saraswati Puja rituals for students starting from 8:00 AM. It’s a vibrant day to be outdoors in the city!
